I can hardly believe that the summer is coming to a close. Like every summer, it has flown by in a wink. However, its not to late to enjoy a nice, refreshing cocktail. In fact, I love to enjoy a good cocktail any month of the year, however, a mojito seems more “summery.” To enjoy the flavors of the summer even more, I’ve made a fantastic Melon & Mint Mojito.

Mojito De Melón Virgen, Exótico Y Refrescante

Now that cantaloupes and honeydews melons are in their peak, I love picking up a couple during these hot summer days. Not only are these sweet melons great for snacking, they’re fantastic when you add them to a drink or cocktail! They’ve got such great flavor, and are wonderful when paired with the lime and mint.

Normally, when making a mojito, you would use a muddler to crush the mint and any other fruits that would go into the drink. (A muddler is a tool that looks like a thick, rounded stick or dowel used to crush ingredients that would go into a cocktail.)

Well, I don’t have a fancy cocktail muddler, so I used my trusty Ninja blender. I simply made a puree of both cantaloupe and honeydew, added the mint leaves, pulsed it a couple more times, and ended up with the perfect mojito puree!

This is a fun drink to serve during a summer party, our outdoor cookout or BBQ. You and your friends will enjoy this drink, as its so completely refreshing and delicious! This twist on a classic mojito cocktail is lightly sweetened with hints of melon, lime, and mint. The Melon Mojito is a refreshing cocktail for spring and summer.

There’s a reason that mojitos are such a popular cocktail—they’re light and refreshing. They’re also quite easy to make for your guests. Simply muddle some mint and lime with rum in a glass, then add ice, and top with club soda. Give the cocktail a gentle shake, and you’re ready to sip and relax.

While I love a classic mojito, this cocktail also lends itself to introducing a variety of fun flavors. (Check out these other fun mojito flavors.) Midori adds such a festive color to cocktails, so I thought why not try it in a mojito. It definitely makes for a refreshing cocktail that is lightly sweetened without having to add additional sugar or simple syrup.

Or, you can create a pitcher version or mojito bar for guests to serve themselves. Depending on the personalities of your guests, this can be a fun interactive experience.

A traditional mojito is lightly sweetened with the refreshing flavors of mint and lime paired together. The cocktail is topped with club soda to lighten the flavors for an easy sipping drink.

While you can use any rum that you like in a mojito, if you want to make a traditional Cuban mojito, opt for a Cuban rum such as Havanna Club.

When muddling your mojito, you need to be gentle. Only muddle enough to release the oils in the mint and the juice in the lime. If you muddle the mint to intensely, you you will release the bitter-tasting chlorophyll from the leaves.

Rum: Some people prefer to use vodka in their mojitos. While it may not be traditional, I’m in the camp of use the liquor you like. I’ve even been seeing tequila mojitos on more bar menus. If you go the tequila route, I would recommend a tequila blanco.
